Join us in welcoming our new Financial Secretary!

Susan Epley

We're taking a break from our normal "Member Spotlight" this month to welcome to our community and get to know someone who isn't a member.  Cathy Moore, who has been our Financial Secretary for the past 5 years, stepped down from her role last month, following her husband accepting a new job.  While she will continue working with the Day School and handling their finances, she plans to spend more time at home with her 2 kids.  While Cathy will be missed, we're very proud to welcome Susan Epley to our staff as the new Financial Secretary.

Susan Epley, the older of 2 sisters, was born in Minnesota, but moved around a lot growing up, living in New Orleans, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma, before settling in Amarillo where she attended High School.  It was there in her Sophomore English class at the age of 15, where she met the man who would later become her husband.

Taking her father's advice to be practical, she attended the University of Texas- Austin and earned a B.B.A. in Accounting, while also studying Art History abroad in London.  Following college, Susan and Brad got married in Amarillo, before moving to Boston where Susan earned a J.D. from the Law School at Boston Universty.  They then moved to Buffalo where they stayed for 2 years while her husband worked on his graduate degree.  They went on to San Francisco where they lived for a year, before moving to Cambridge, England, where her husband earned his Masters in Conservation and their son was born.

Returning to Texas, they have lived in Houston for 8 1/2 years and are proud to call it home.  Their son is now 10, and their daughter is 8.  Susan's husband, Brad, is an Art Conservator and works for the Menil Collection here in Houston.  They enjoy camping together, especially Big Bend, and travelling as well (they spent their 10 year anniversary in Peru).  Susan’s favorite type of music is alternative, though she also enjoys classical and opera, and she enjoys watching movies.

Before coming to work here at St. Andrew's, Susan worked 5 years for Ernst & Young, followed by 3 years at Deloitte Tax.  Our advertisement in the West U/ Village News caught her eye because her kids had attended Children's Place for a year.  She's very happy to be joining us and is looking forward to being a part of this exciting time, especially as we gear up for the Capital Campaign in May.  When we asked what her favorite thing about the job was, there was no hesitation in her voice as she quickly answered, "The people... I love getting to know the people."

Next time you stop by during the week, be sure to stop in and welcome Susan!  She'd love to meet you!
